What's Checked in a Full Car Service?

Full Service vs Interim Service
An interim service is a lighter, six-month check focused on oil, filters and core safety items. A full service, usually done annually or every 12,000 miles, is the deeper check most manufacturers recommend to keep your warranty and your car's reliability intact.
It covers everything an interim service does, plus a much wider set of checks across the engine, brakes, steering, suspension and electrics — the kind of thorough look that catches problems before they turn into breakdowns.
The Checklist
A full service at Millfields Auto Services includes an oil and filter change, checks on the air filter, pollen filter, spark plugs where due, and all fluid levels — brake fluid, coolant, power steering and screenwash.
We also check brakes, tyres and tread depth, suspension components, exhaust condition, lights, battery health, and the underbody for corrosion or leaks. Anything found is explained clearly, with photos where useful, before any further work is agreed.
Why It Protects Resale Value
A full, stamped service history is one of the first things buyers and dealers look for when valuing a used car. Cars with a documented, regular service record consistently sell for more and sell faster than those with gaps or no history at all.
Beyond resale, regular servicing catches small issues — a worn belt, low fluid, early brake wear — while they are still cheap to fix, rather than letting them develop into major repairs.
How Often
Most manufacturers recommend a full service every 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first, though some newer cars have longer intervals — check your handbook to be sure. High-mileage drivers often benefit from an interim service between full services too.
