Why Is My Car Pulling to One Side? Alignment and Brake Checks

Four Main Causes of Pulling to One Side
A car pulling to one side can be caused by: uneven tyre pressures (most common), misaligned wheels, sticking brake calliper, or suspension wear. At Millfields Auto Services in Bilston, we check all of these systematically. The good news — most pulling issues are inexpensive fixes if caught early.
Uneven Tyre Pressure — The Quick Fix
Check your tyre pressures first. Underinflated tyres on one side create drag and cause pulling. If your car pulled to the left and your left front tyre is soft, inflate it back to the correct pressure and the pulling usually stops. Correct pressures are on a sticker inside your driver door, not on the tyre sidewall.
Wheel Alignment — Worn Steering and Suspension Parts
If tyre pressures are correct but the car still pulls, your wheel alignment is likely out. This happens after hitting a pothole, kerbing a wheel, or from suspension wear over time. Misaligned wheels also cause uneven tyre wear — you will see one edge of the tyre wearing faster than the rest. Wheel alignment is a quick job at most garages, including ours in Bilston.
Sticking Brake Calliper or Suspension Wear
If the car pulls only when you brake, a caliper may be sticking on one side — the brake pad is dragging, pulling the car. If it pulls during normal driving and you see uneven tyre wear plus poor ride quality, check your suspension. Worn dampers or bushes can cause pulling and instability. We inspect both with a test drive and on the ramps.
